Ghost Towns and Mines

The Boyer Ranch is located on the western side of Dixie Valley, just outside of Cottonwood Canyon. The earliest property record for the site is from 1909. There are claims that the stone building and a root cellar date back to the 1860s, but this has not been confirmed. (I didn’t see the root cellar when I was there.)

The valley is part of the U.S. Navy’s Supersonic Operations Area, and in 1986 the Navy purchased many of the homes and ranches in the area, including this one. The goal was to eliminate complaints over low-level flights.
