Ghost Towns, Mines, and More!

Rich strikes in 1872 started the rush, and within a few months the new town
of Cherry Creek boasted a population of 400. At its peak in 1882 there were at least 1800 permanent residents, a wide variety of shops and 28 saloons. Over the years the town experienced a number of booms and busts, as well as several devastating fires. As of 2010, the population was 72.
