Ghost Towns and Mines

The large and impressive mill ruins at Grantsville are probably the first thing one sees upon entering the canyon. The mill is in pretty bad shape, yet has held together much longer than I’d expected. I first saw it sometime in 1989 or 1990. By 2015 I was expecting to find it completely collapsed, but for the most part it is still standing.

I can’t confirm this, but it looks to me that the existing structure was built over the foundations of an earlier mill. The remains of a stamp mill were probably part of the original mill.

July 2016: Added some scanned slides from my first visit in 1989.
