The In-ko-pah Railroad
The In-ko-pah Railroad
Inspiration
My railroad was inspired, in part, by the San Diego & Arizona Railway’s route through the Carrizo Gorge. This standard gauge railroad passes through spectacular desert terrain. Here the tracks snake around cliffs and canyons, crossing spindly wooden trestles that hug the mountainside. Tunnels both short and long provide passage through solid rock.
The long-vanished mining railroads of Nevada and the Mojave desert were another source of inspiration, as were the many ghost towns and mining camps I’ve explored during my annual camping trips.
