The In-ko-pah Railroad

The first structure I built for the railroad was this water tower, which stands near the town of Dos Manos. I built it in 2006, while the layout was still under construction. It’s a replica of the San Diego & Arizona Railroad’s water tower at Dos Cabesas, in the Anza-Borrego Desert.

The tank was made from a length of 7” OD aluminum tube. To bring the diameter up to the correct scale size, I wrapped it in two layers of .125” thick PVC foam sheet.

I get the “Sintra” PVC foam board from this supplier:

The aluminum tube came from Online Metals. They have a wide selection of sizes and will cut it to any length: http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?id=71&step=2&top_cat=60

I’ve misplaced the photos taken during construction of the model. Most of the photos shown here were taken during refurbishing in 2013. When I find the original photos, I’ll add them to this page.
