In February 2016 I bought this Toyota 4-Runner Trail Edition with KDSS, which I have named “Megaweapon”. Although I have owned SUVs for most of my adult life, and have spent decades off-roading and “overlanding”, I never did any modifications to my previous vehicles other than adding a roof rack and better tires. But now, at my age, I figure this may very well be my last SUV so I might as well splurge and customize it.

On this page I’ll be posting photos of Megaweapon’s transition from straight-off-the-lot stock, to the capable, good-looking beast it is now.

July 1, 2016: Added BudBuilt “rock sliders”.

July 8, 2016: Swapped out the stock tires for BFG KO2 all-terrain tires.

July 29, 2016: Removed stock rack and added Gobi “no-rise” Stealth roof rack and ladder.

January 3, 2017: Added MetalTech front bumper; King coil over shocks; stronger rear springs; about 1.5”-2” lift.

February 10, 2017: RCI skid plates.

April 27, 2017: Custom filler plate to fit the gap between bumper and skids.

August 2, 2018: Added LED light bars on front and sides of roof rack

May 3, 2019: Upgraded interior lighting and back up lights to LEDs.
