Ghost Towns and Mines
The Nevada Rand and Copper Mountain Mines are located on the mountain above, and just west of, the Golden Pen Mine. All three mines were begun at about the same time in 1908. Ore from these mines was first processed at the Rawhide Mill. In 1919 the Golden Pen Mining Company built a 20-ton mill near the Golden Pen Mine, and began processing ore there in 1920.
The Nevada Rand Mining Company was formed in 1916 and owned property consisting of seven claims including the Copper Mountain Mine.
