Vintage Machinery and Vehicles

This rare example of an early hoist and headframe is displayed at the Tonopah Historical Mining Park in Tonopah, NV. The type of hoist was powered by a horse or mule, which was hitched to a rotating wooden arm. As the animal walked in a circle, the rope was either pulled up, or let out. To provide sufficient clearance, the rope passed through a shallow channel in the ground, between the hoist and the headframe.
