Vintage Machinery and Vehicles

This belt-driven compressor was photographed at the Comet Mine, NV. This same mine had a larger, two-cylinder Ingersoll-Rand compressor, which probably was added as the mine expanded and needed a more powerful source for compressed air.

I was unable to find a builder’s plate on this compressor, so I don’t know the make or model. I’m guessing this one was also made by Ingersoll-Rand, but I can’t be sure.

This compressor was used to supply air for the drills in the mine. The compressed air was contained in a huge, riveted steel tank outside of the hoist house.
