Jumbo Mine, NV
The Jumbo Mine is in the Awakening Mining District in the Slumbering Hills. Gold was first discovered in the area in 1910, at the Alabama Mine. Many other mines and prospects soon dotted the area. By 1918 the mines were petering out and the boom turned to bust. Then in 1935 a new strike was made, which became the Jumbo Mine. The mine shutdown in 1941 when the USA entered WWII. After the war the mine reopened, but production was sporadic and the mine closed for good in 1951.
Other sites I visited in this area are the Alabama Mine, Daveytown, the Jumbo Shaft, and the Spanish Girl Mine.
I visited this site in June 2024.
