King Midas Mine, NV
Despite its name, the King Midas Mine mostly produced silver, lead, zinc, and only a small amount of gold. Ore was first reported in the area in 1917, but there was no production until 1943. Most production occurred between 1952 and 1955. The mine has been idle ever since.
The only structure at the King Midas Mine is an impressive wooden ore chute. Mine tracks extend from the main adit and straight out to the top of the chute. There is no ore bin; apparently the ore would go directly into a truck parked at the bottom of the chute.
There are at least three other adits nearby. Two of them, located higher on the hillside to the north, appear to have used either a long chute or an incline. A trail of lumber down the hillside is all that remains.
At the bottom of the hill the trail passes the carcass of an old bus.
I visited the King Midas Mine, NV three times in the summer of 2024.
