Star Tungsten Mine, NV
Ore containing copper, gold, and silver was discovered in Harrison Pass in 1897, but it never amounted to much. In 1916 tungsten ore was found, but again there was no significant production. Finally in 1929 a new period of exploration and production was kicked off by the discovery of tungsten ore at the Campbell Mine. By 1940 the Star Tungsten Mine was in production, along with several others nearby. A mill was built at the Star Tungsten Mine, but it burned down in 1943. It was rebuilt in 1944 but close down after only a brief period of operation, and the new mill equipment was removed.
Since then only minor production has occurred periodically during the 1950s and 1970s. Some of the cabins were still occupied into the mid-1990s.
Two more mines related to the Star Tungsten Mine can be seen here: Lime Kiln Canyon.
I visited the Star Tungsten Mine in July 2024.
