Silver ore was first discovered on Tempiute Mountain in 1866. Another silver strike was made two years later. I can't verify it, but I suspect that this small mining camp was the result of that second strike. On the USGS topographic map the site is labeled "Tempiute Mines SW." The mine is located farther up the canyon, and requires a bit of hiking to get there. It was too hot to attempt the hike during this trip, but I hope to try it again some other time.
