Tenmile Mine, NV

This is another mine for which very little information is available. Most of the online sources that list a history are actually describing mines near Battle Mountain. The Tenmile Mine isn't in that area. It's near Winnemucca. In fact, it's ten miles from Winnemucca, which is why it's called the Tenmile Mine.

As far as I can tell, this is a gold and silver mine that was mainly active from around 1900 to 1942. It's been reported that in 1983 the headframe was refurbished and the mine was put back into operation on a small scale, employing five people. However, no activity was seen at the site in 1984.

When I visited the mine in June 2024 there was  a sign advising that this is an active claim. There was also modern excavation equipment on site, and recent evidence of grading around the headframe area. Fortunately it appears that they are avoiding damage to the historic headframe.

I visited this site in June 2024.
