White Peaks Mine No.1, NV

Mercury ore was discovered in the Bottle Creek District in 1936. Numerous mines operated in the district, with the peak of production occurring from the late 1930s into the early 1940s. Spikes in the price of mercury spurred some additional production in the late 1950s, and again in the late 1960s. The district has been idle since the early 1970s.

The White Peaks claims included three mines. Only two of the White Peak mines have any structures still standing. I believe this one is White Peaks Mine No. 1. It consists of a shaft and an adit. The headframe of the shaft has collapsed. Nearby is a corrugated metal building that may have been the hoist house. There is also a large wooden ore bin, and the foundations of a small mill and furnace.

Other sites in this area are the White Peaks Mine No.2, Bottle Creek Cabins, the Bottle Creek Mill, and the Baldwin Mine.

I visited this site in June 2024.
